We spent some time in the new “think tank” room yesterday as a team, reviewing our projects and pages around the new recent metrics Facebook has introduced.
Here is a quick look at the latest round of changes:
A new number has appeared on the left hand side of the page under the total number of likes and consists of a mixture of likes, comments, shares and other Facebook actions that happen around pages. We find this number very relevant in many of our managed communities, and has been something we have been preaching to our clients for months. So much of what you do on Facebook is beyond the “like”. Consumers are sometimes overwhelmed by pages upon pages in their feeds. This new feature allows the visitor to research and learn more about the audience and interactions levels before joining the community.
As quoted by Simply Zesty, will engagement overtake likes?
“This goes some way to killing off the race for likes and brands and businesses will now want to rightly focus on how engaging their page is. Making it so visible on the page means that page owners will be forced to try and create engaging content and interact with their likes. Although the like button is a major source of revenue for Facebook this new metric is a smart move as they seek to improve the quality of Facebook fan pages.”
What project tasks in Facebook managed pages become more important with this change?
Great question! In our suite of services, the need to present and curate great content becomes ahead of bombarding new “likes” to the page. Something we have preached for years. Organizing your content blueprint around the promotional strategies and interactions on the page becomes doubly important. Our Facebook team seems to think it will be pretty easy to implement. and could easily separate the “boys” from the “men”.
What are your thoughts? Do you like this change, in the lower left corner?
