Erica’s Professional Life

While studying Strategic Communication at The Ohio State University, I immersed myself in a wide range of internships related to marketing, including Community Refugee & Immigration Services, Global Gifts, and the City of Dublin.

It was at the City of Dublin where I first met Megan, the owner of MJ2, after bonding over the fact that we both happened to be at the same Bruce Springsteen concert in Cleveland the night before. She let me know that MJ2 was looking for an intern, and I quickly applied.

I’ve been working at MJ2 ever since and have loved every minute of it. I love agency life, the quick pace, unpredictability, and creativity. I’ve learned so much from everyone I have worked with over the past four years at MJ2 and have enjoyed broadening my skillset across all facets of digital marketing.

Erica’s Personal Life

Outside of work, I like to stay busy traveling and exploring new places. I’ve made it a goal to visit every National Park before I die, which has turned into a great adventure of seeing places all across the country.

I also really enjoy music and podcasts. I’m always finding new music and trying to create the perfect playlist on Spotify, although I mostly end up creating playlists that consist of random jumps from Willie Nelson to The Strokes without much of a “theme.”

Other than that, I enjoy hiking, writing, spending time with friends and family, and finding cozy cafes or coffee shops around Columbus.

Q&A with Erica Newell

What is your favorite thing about working at MJ2?

My favorite part has to be the people. Everyone knows how to work hard but also play hard. We are dedicated to helping our clients achieve their goals, and provide the best service I’ve seen from an agency. But we also always take time to team-build and have fun together.

What has been your favorite MJ2 project?

I’m not involved in too many projects since my focus is mainly on account management with our ongoing clients, but I definitely enjoy any projects we get that involve Facebook and LinkedIn advertising. I always love the challenge of creating ads that not only work and convert but do so at the lowest possible cost to our clients.

If you could trade skills for a day with another MJ2 team member, who would it be and why?

I would like to trade skills with Jordan – I’d love to know what it takes to build a website.

How do you stay current in your areas of expertise?

I receive daily emails from Social Media Examiner – they have quick easy-to-read content about everything trending in the digital world. I also enjoy joining in on any Live events put on by experts in the industry. Additionally, I had the opportunity to attend Social Media Marketing World at the beginning of this year in San Diego, which was an incredible experience with marketers from across the globe.
