Digital Content Director

Jenn’s Professional Life

It’s been a long and winding road to end up as Digital Content Director at MJ2 Marketing … I began my career at the Legislative Services Commission with the Ohio General Assembly where I worked for a few years as a Research Associate before deciding to go back to graduate school at The Ohio State University. After earning my Master’s in Public Administration from the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, I worked as Grant Coordinator for the City of Columbus. After my second of three kids was born, I decided to stay home with my kids. After about an 8 year break I re-entered the workforce as Marketing Director for a local restaurant group before landing at MJ2. I believe the saying is “always forward, never straight.”

Jenn’s Personal Life

I just recently celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary with my husband, Scott, who I met when I was working for the state legislature. We have three kids – Tyler is a freshman at the University of Cincinnati, Aidan is a Junior at Dublin Coffman High School, and Liv is a Sophomore at Coffman – and Shi Tzu, Charlie who is the most spoiled of all of us! We love to travel as a family and over the years we have spent many weekends traveling for and watching the kids’ sports – soccer, basketball, and cheer. Scott and I are counting down the days until we can move to the beach, but until then we enjoy dining out and spending time with friends.

Q&A with Jennifer Dring

What is your favorite thing about working at MJ2?

Of course, I love the people that I get to work with ? I really enjoy the collaborative nature of our work and getting to be a part of a variety of projects. I also love that my clients come from a broad spectrum of industries – from robotics to a nonprofit to an aesthetic medicine company – which ensures that every day is a little different and always interesting. And because I do a lot of the writing for all of our clients, I am always learning about new things, which is fun and a bit challenging.

What has been your favorite MJ2 project?

That’s a tough question because most of my work is on-going client based work rather than a specific project. I will say, however, that I was proud of the work that our team did on a recent virtual Patient Appreciation Event for our client, Timeless Skin Solutions. Since they were unable to hold their annual event in-person due to current gathering guidelines, we brainstormed a way to hold a 3-day virtual event that was a combination of social media, digital marketing, Facebook Live events, and email marketing and it was a huge success … and dare I say a lot of fun!

If you could trade skills for a day with another MJ2 team member, who would it be and why?

Probably Ana because she is so creative and somehow finds a way to make what I say with words come to life with imagery. It is really amazing!

How do you stay current in your areas of expertise?

I read a lot of blogs on digital, content, and email marketing and I try to commit each day to spend time on LinkedIn learning from others’ experiences. It’s a great platform to get a quick glimpse of what is happening in a particular field and then dive into anything that is particularly relevant or interesting. I’m also the mom of three teenagers so I pay attention to what THEY are paying attention to on the digital platforms and that is invaluable market research!

What are your top 3 favorite Columbus/Dublin based companies?

Well, I would be a bad wife if I didn’t give a nod to the Dublin Convention & Visitors Bureau. My husband has led that team for nearly 20 years and it has given us an amazing life in an amazing community. Other than that, I’m an equal opportunity happy hour hopper – give me a good wine list and some yummy appetizers and I am a customer for life.

Blue Jackets, Crew, Clippers, or Wild Dogs?

Let’s go Jackets! But I’m also pretty glad that the city managed to #SavetheCrew

What is your favorite relaxing activity?

I love to kayak and spend time outdoors (as long as it is not snowing!) running, walking, and hiking.

What are you currently reading?

I’ve been reading a ton through the recent shut down, so it’s a little bit of everything. I typically enjoy historical fiction and true crime, but recently read The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell and loved it.

What is your motto or personal mantra?

She believed she could, so she did. That phrase propelled me to run a half-marathon for my 40th birthday, and I have embraced it ever since.

How do you take your coffee?

With way too much creamer!

If you were a baseball player, what song would you walk out to?

I’m not much of a baseball fan so I have a hard time with this one. I call Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” my “mile 11” song … the worst mile of a half-marathon. Does that count?

What is your favorite restaurant in Columbus?

The Pearl in Dublin – the best view in town with the patio overlooking the Dublin Link
