Six Tips to Harness the Power of Productivity

productivityIt’s a fact that humans have short attention spans – research says that human attention spans are even shorter than goldfish at eight seconds. Since the mobile revolution, shorter attention spans have drawn attention to productivity levels and the most efficient ways to maximize quality and quantity of work produced. Some tips and tricks are quick fixes, while others require long-term focus and practice. But, since you’re probably a human reading this, let’s keep your attention by sticking with six quick fixes for workplace productivity.

1.    Don’t Meet to Please

Meetings are inevitable. Even in our digital space, nothing can beat face-to-face meetings. Managers spend on average 42.5% of their time in meetings – 67 percent of which are considered to be failures by executives (Muse, 2015.) Your time is money so choose only the meetings that require your attendance.

2.    Be Tech Friendly

Take your business a step further than internet access and laptops. Task management software can help coworkers collaborate and communicate. MJ2 has found great success with Asana, for example. We manage over 66 networks with multiple MJ2 team members on each utilizing Asana’s many functions.

3.    Take a Hike

Sitting for long periods of time can harm your health and decrease your level of focus. Consider a walking meeting or walking a couple blocks to grab lunch for the day.

4.    Don’t Drown in E-Mails

E-mails have a way of pulling you in and stealing precious time out of your work day. Designate time to spend sorting through and replying to e-mails in batches. Perhaps it’s best to answer e-mails first thing in the morning and again in the afternoon. Either way, it’s important to set that time aside to eliminate distractions. You should also consider taking advantage of the organization tools within your e-mail provider such as color-coded tabs by accounts or industry categories.

5.    Let the News Come to You

Instead of scanning multiple news outlets for headlines, let the news come to you by setting up Google News Alerts or notifications from your favorite news source’s app.

6.    Put it to Sleep

Your computer, that is. Instead of shutting down your computer at the end of the work day, put your computer on sleep mode to conserve energy without waiting for it to boot up in the AM. It may seem like a small adjustment, but it can save you around one hour a week.
Now that you’ve freed up some time in your schedule, this is a worthwhile way to spend 10 minutes of your day.
