As I walked through the doors of Mount St. Joseph University, I felt feelings of accomplishment and excitement. The Mount means more to me than just an alma mater. A little over 2 years ago, I walked down the aisle and married my husband at The Mount’s Mater Dei Chapel. Also, my father has been an American History professor there for over 20 years. Here I am again, over 2 years later, coming back to this special place to give a presentation to a class about what has shaped my career – Social Media Marketing.
The Presentation
I presented to a small class of students who are studying Communications and New Media at MSJU. I took them through why social media marketing is important for a business and the process of how we develop and implement a social media strategy for each of our clients at MJ2 Marketing. And, of course, we finished the class in true Social Media fashion – with a selfie.
The Relationship
Due to the success of the presentation, the professor, Fr. John Amankwah, has asked MJ2 to come up with a project for his students to work on so they can get some hands-on experience with marketing a product online. We will be working with his class throughout this semester by having the students develop a social media strategy to market a specific product. We will give them feedback on their work and maybe even apply some of their fresh ideas to our client work.
The Room for Opportunities
Presenting at MSJ has opened up a door for MJ2. We would like to start offering more presentations like this one at local universities. It’s our little way of giving back to our community and providing valuable education to students who are interested in a career in online marketing.
It was such an honor to return to my alma mater to present in a classroom where I once sat in those desks as a student. I saw familiar faces and new improvements, like the new media room. It opened up opportunities for myself and MJ2 for future presentations and projects. We appreciate Mount St. Joseph University for the opportunity to educate their bright students on the future of the industry we are proud to be a part of.
